You may have noticed that here at the Abergavenny Focus, we enjoy a good story. At this time of year, there really is nothing better than curling up beside a fire with a good book is there? Sometimes though, a short story hit, much like a shot of espresso, can be as moving and powerful as a full-blown novel (or mocha choca latte to pursue this analogy).

This year, National Short Story Week occurs between 12th and 18th November and, in support of this, we have got together with our good friends at Bookish bookshop in Crickhowell to launch our very own Short Story Competition. As some of you will know, our Flash Fiction competition back in May was a huge success and we received entries from far and wide. This time, we’re looking for stories on any subject, previously unpublished and of no more than 700 words. There are no age restrictions and the winning entry will appear in November’s issue of the Abergavenny Focus. The closing date for entries is Friday 19th October, so get writing!
