Katrina Gass asks ‘Have you discovered the tranquility of Linda Vista Gardens?’

Friends of Linda Vista Gardens

If you have, you will already know about the bright flower beds and the beautiful trees and shrubs which include some rare specimens. In the Gardens there are many ideal spots for a picnic and the play bed with its willow tunnel is always popular with children. If you haven’t, why not treat yourself on the next sunny day to a walk through the Gardens from the Tudor Street entrance to the other gate into the Byefield Lane car park?

The Friends of Linda Vista was established in 2008 to protect and enhance the historic character of the gardens together with Monmouthshire County Council, the current owners.  Since then the Friends have funded numerous joint projects involving the County Council, the Town Council and the Tidy Towns Team. Improving access – from friendly notice boards to the two new boardwalks – has been a priority of the Friends. These projects have been popular, particularly with pram pushers and wheel chair users.

Many people will have an introduction to the Gardens in September when they use the official route, from the Food Festival car parking on the Castle Meadows, through the Gardens. This is thanks to one of the recent projects which has seen the installation of a gate into the Castle Meadows with a new path linking with one of the meadow paths. There will be a warm welcome from the Friends and people will be invited to return for picnics in the calm, away from the rush and bustle of the Festival.

The Friends are always looking for more assistance with ideas as well as hands on work such as helping with planting projects and willow trimming. If you are interested in finding out more about the Friends please contact either Katrina Gass 855760 or Oliver Barton 737671.
