On display in Powys for the first time, renown welsh artist Ivor Davies’s life-sized paintings of medieval Welsh princes will feature in this year’s summer art exhibition at Treberfydd House, Brecon.
The Exhibition, “Welsh Princes and Chinese Legends,” will run from July 14 to July 29th and marks the first international exhibition that Ivor Davies has displayed his four life-sized Welsh Princes which were created in 2007 for a S4C TV programme. Recently elected President of the Royal Cambrian Academy, Davies’ work has been collected by private and public collections around the world.
Also featured in the show will be work by three Chinese artists, including Yang Yongliang, whose work has been collected by the British Museum. “We are lucky to get a Chinese artist of such a strong international reputation to show alongside Ivor Davies. Yang’s pictures evoke 11th century China, while Davies conjures up a similar period in Welsh history,” says Carla Rapoport, who has organized the show for the second year. “And both have provided beautiful yet provocative interpretations of their ancient subjects.”
The show will also include works from 12 other artists, including sculpture, ceramics, oils, water-colours and prints. It will also coincide with the Grade-1 listed house’ annual open house, with tours of the house and gardens daily at 2 and 4pm. Proceeds from sales, after costs, will go to three charities: Arts Alive Wales, Brecon Baroque Festival and Peace Direct
