After several trips to Neville Hall Accident and emergency with my daughter, we began to get slightly concerned when the receptionist greeted us on sight by our Christian names. Thank you to the fantastic staff by the way! However, few pet owners consider out-of-hour (OOH) provision when they choose a vet.
All veterinary practices in the UK are obliged to provide 24hr cover for patients under their care. But this does necessarily mean they do it themselves. In the last decade, many practices have passed on their OOH duties to distant city based centres. In Monmouthshire we have worked very hard to ensure we provide 24hrs- care when and where you need it. This avoids the alternative which would be a long journey to Cardiff or Bristol.
For small animal emergencies, Abbey Vets and Riverside Vets work together in order to provide a local service for accidents from a cut to a true
emergency like gastric bloat or whelping bitches that may require a Caesarean. We believe by keeping emergency provision local, staffed by qualified and experienced vets and nurses we provide a superior service.
Beforehand all we ask is you have registered you pets beforehand to make to process as efficient as possible.
For equine emergencies the dedicated team of Abbey Equine vets from our Llansabbath Equine Centre provide cover to all corners of the county and beyond even if it is 3am or Xmas day! If you have a horse emergency you need a horse vet.
Accident and Emergency provision can be hard – mentally and physically especially after a full days “normal” veterinary work but it is also some of the most rewarding and exciting work in veterinary medicine. Hopefully, however, it is not the way we learn you and your pets first names!
