SEEDY SUNDAY 2023
For its 13th year running, Seedy Sunday returns to the Abergavenny Commuity Centre on Sunday 26th February 2023 from 11am to 4pm.
The FREE event, organised by Abergavenny locals, gives gardeners, seasoned and beginners, the opportunity to get the seeds and plants they need for the coming season free of charge if they have seeds or plants to swap, or for a donation. Details on how to collect and distribute seeds for the event and how to swap plants on the day are available at the bottom of the page.
Delicious home-made cakes, Fair Trade coffee, tea and squash will be on offer for a donation, and after it’s popularity last year soup of several varieties will be served from 12.30pm.
Tools for Self Reliance will bring garden tools to replace those that have got broken or lost. A family friendly activity will get the kids involved in making posies to take home whilst Bee-friendly Monmouthshire, the Permaculture Association and lots of other local groups will have stalls and information available.
This year both Friends of the Earth Abergavenny and Crickhowell and Abergavenny Transition Town groups will be beneficiaries from the proceeds of the event.
COLLECTING AND DISTRIBUTING SEEDS FOR SEEDY SUNDAY
To make it easier to swap, envelopes have been printed and are ready to collect from 3 venues covering different sides of Abergavenny:
1. 40 Holywell Crescent, Abergavenny NP7 5LH
2. I Cae Penydre NP7 5UP (side metal gate entry)
3. 99 Park Crescent NP7 5TL
At each venue you will find a container outside with empty printed seed packets. Please collect as many as you need. Please return the seed packets when you have filled them to these same containers so that they can be sorted in advance. You can also bring the seed packets on the day.
Guidance for making up seed packets:
How much seed per packet? A tricky question as it will vary greatly according to the type of seed. Think about how many plants someone would want for say 2 seasons- quite a lot of carrots but not many pumpkins, for example. Add a collected seed usually has high viability. Make sure you include your name, the date [year] of seed collection and variety.
SWAPPING PLANTS ON THE DAY
We are unable to collect your plants ahead of the event. Please bring your plants on the day and leave them on trays made available. Swap or make a donation.
