Abergavenny has been named in a recent Sunday Times list, which reveals the best places to live in the UK
Anyone who lives in Abergavenny knows that it’s a wonderful place to be. Confirmation of this fact can be found in a recent Sunday Times publication: The Sunday Times Best Places to Live, which is compiled by editor and broadcaster, Eleanor Mills. The comprehensive and up-to-date two-part guide was published in the Sunday Times during March and revealed all the havens around the UK where one might wish to put down one’s roots. It also served to elicit smug expressions and nods of confirmation amongst residents already living in the locations named on the list.
A number of elements were taken into account in order to compile the list, including transport links, quality of schools, crime rates, property prices, cultural life, natural beauty and unemployment figures. Other factors such as architecture, festivals and other unique assets particular to individual locations were also taken into consideration.
The guide also named the ten most desireable places to live in Wales with Abergavenny’s neighbour, Crickhowell, also featuring in the list.
Fiona Beavan, chair of Abergavenny Business Club, said it’s Abergavenny’s community spirit which makes it so appealing: “You come and live in Abergavenny; you will get involved in the community. It’s a town with a heart. The spirit within the town is amazing. Even when the weather was extremely bad, you found the independent businesses would always strive to be open. Nothing really stops Abergavenny.”
