Conversations at the Chapel – Alastair Laurence Upstairs at the Chapel Thursday 30th April 2026, 8pm

In conversation with Dr Peter Wakelin.

Alastair Laurence initiated the Conversations at the Chapel in 2018 and since then has interviewed over fifty writers, artists, historians, biographers and speakers on environment, mental health and violence against women. Among those brought to Abergavenny by Alastair are Gillian Clarke, Richard Eyre, Rowan Williams, David Hare, Peggy Seager, Doreen Lawrence, Horatio Clare and Polly Toynbee. Peter Wakelin will turn the tables to interview Alastair about his favourite visitors and his worst moments as well as his career as a producer of television documentaries on music, photography, poetry and other arts subjects, and what he is doing next.

Peter Wakelin chairs the Board of Cadw and is President of the Contemporary Art Society for Wales. His books include Hidden Histories: Discovering the Heritage of Wales, Hill-rhythms: David Jones + Capel-y-ffinRefuge and Renewal: Migration and British Art and several artist monographs.
