Male stacks, Female gaps ART BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY

Join Catherine Wynne-Paton for art talks in the library on the 4th Saturday of each month from 11am-Noon on the Mezzanine. On 28th March she’ll be talking about her project to equalise the number of books on male and female artists in our library and in March giving an illustrated talk on the artist Faith Ringgold.

Overview This project addresses the significant gender imbalance in UK public library collections of artist monographs, where an estimated 95% of monographs focus on male artists. The initiative aims to model and advocate for equal representation of female and male artists across library shelves. Aims Achieve gender parity (50:50) in artist monograph collections in public libraries, starting in Abergavenny and scaling up across Wales and the UK.
