Tucked away at number 15 Nevill Street, you’ll find one of Abergavenny’s most recent retail newcomers: Petal & Leaf.
Rachel Dixon established Petal & Leaf in August this year as a means of combining a floristry studio with a working greenhouse and a cutting garden where she will use her own seasonal cut flowers and foliage to create her beautiful bouquets and posies next spring and summer.
In the meantime, while Rachel cultivates her blooms for next year, her aim is to support local farmers and growers who supply her business with beautiful, fresh, long-lasting flowers. As Rachel sources her flowers locally, it means she doesn’t have to rely on long-haul deliveries or imports and reduces the carbon footprint of her flowers by championing what we have right here on our doorstep.
The style of floristry that characterises Petal & Leaf is very loose, wild and rustic, rather than stiff and formal – think of a blousy meadow bouquet and you’ve got it! The studio is a swathe of local seasonal colour, where you can pick up free-form hand-tied bouquets, pretty jam jar posies, dried flowers and seed heads, pots and vases.
Rachel is inspired through her customers and their feedback around their own interests, so look out this autumn and winter for floristry classes, wreath making and flower pressing workshops.
