Anything that involves change can be a scary thing, can’t it? I remember being little, and that feeling of dread and mild terror at the prospect of moving up a year group each September.
Nowadays, and probably because I’m now in my early forties, I find myself more ready to embrace change and to try something new that will challenge me. Last year I interviewed Prue Leith as part of a Book-ish event in front of hundreds of people – a scary prospect, but lots of fun! I also found myself in front of a camera being filmed for a short piece about my expertise in the field of Autism – definitely a new experience for me. And this April, I’ll be trying something new again and getting involved in Abergavenny’s Writing Festival, chairing a debate about whether or not we all have a novel inside us. Later this year, I’ll be talking to a Probus group about what it’s like running a magazine on a day to day basis (and anything else that might be entertaining).
These things represent new challenges for me and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into them. Why not try something new yourself? We’ve got a raft of ideas in this month’s magazine so do have a good read and see if anything sparks your imagination. You never know, you could find a new calling, a new hobby and definitely make some new friends along the way. In the words of Dr Seuss: “You’ll never get bored when you try something new. There’s really no limit to what you can do.”
Enjoy this month’s read,
