Theatr Brycheiniog in a partnership with Friends of Brecon Jazz is introducing The Brecon Jazz Weekend Young Musician’s Showcase. The Showcase will be supported by youth music development and activities for children and families including street/outdoor entertainment.
The Showcase at Theatr Brycheiniog is working with leading specialist music colleges throughout the UK to bring the best of the UK’s emerging jazz musicians to Brecon. The Brecon Jazz Weekend Young Musician’s Showcase is an entirely new concept and will be an innovative element of the Brecon Jazz Weekend 2016.
We hope The Showcase aims to become known as a launch pad of national and in subsequent years, international significance for young jazz musicians worldwide. The artistic vision for The Brecon Jazz Weekend Young Musician’s Showcase is to provide emerging jazz musicians from leading music colleges, in bands and ensembles of their own creation, with in many cases their first high profile performance, at what is hoped will be a new and re-invigorated Brecon Jazz Festival, building on all that was good from the previous thirty-three years. It offers a unique opportunity for outstanding young musicians to perform in this distinctive and very beautiful part of Wales and for jazz audiences to gain their first glimpse of the burgeoning talent emerging from some of the UK’s leading music conservatoires.
The Showcase at Theatr Brycheiniog will take the form of a series of performances by young jazz musicians in scheduled performances in formal and informal spaces within the theatre and impromptu, informal sessions in the surrounding townscape, The Brecon Jazz Weekend Young Musician’s Showcase is designed to create and promote a passion for participation, non-participation, engagement and diversity in music for young people in Wales and beyond. It is groundbreaking in concept and ambition; providing also a platform for musicians and festivals alike going forward.
The Brecon Jazz Weekend 2016 in addition to The Showcase at Theatr Brycheiniog includes Jazz events organised by Brecon Jazz Club at the Guildhall and other venues and two concerts at Brecon Cathedral. The Brecon Fringe Festival also takes place in many other venues over the weekend.
