Jazz Alley will be a new feature of the wall2wall Jazz Festival, which takes place in Abergavenny over the first weekend of September.
Taking over the Market Hall on the Sunday – 6th September – from 11am to 6pm, Jazz Alley will see great music on the free jazz stage, a wide selection of good food, an all-day bar plus other entertainment – something for all the family come, stay and enjoy.
First on the big stage will be RedRug, a local band made up of sixteen-year-old lads who share a passion for music and have been playing together since 2013.
A highlight of the day will be Mankala, who have been performing their unique High Energy-Pan-African-Coalition of Sounds across the lengths of the UK and beyond since 2003 – from venues in their home town of Bristol to the internationally renowned Jazz World Stage at Glastonbury Festival.
Also not to be missed will be The FB Pocket Orchestra, which will take you back to the hot jazz, blues, ragtime & popular dances of the 1920/30s & earlier.
The last act on the big stage will be the Zoe Schwarz & Rob Koral Jazz Duo. This nationally regarded duo deliver a performance of cool jazz tones with gritty blues inflections. Zoe Schwarz Blue Commotion take to the stage again at 9pm in the Kings Arms for the closing gig of this year’s festival.
In fine support will be the locally-based all women Tarion Band, the ever-popular close-harmony male voice choir synergy and displays of Lindy Hop and Jive.
This great free programme of music will be supported by stalls, an all-day bar and a selection of splendid food – so there is no need to cook the Sunday dinner.
During the morning we will be judging the family art competition, which has three age groups – 5 to 8 years, 9 to 12 years and 13 to 16 years. The entries will be on display at Jazz Alley throughout the day.
Full details of the free Jazz Alley programme and the family art competition are on the wall2wall page of our website at www.blackmountainjazz.co.uk .
The website also has details of the weekend’s ticketed events – that will bring great live jazz to Abergavenny – and the Blues Stage, as well as fringe event. It also has an online box office.
So, if it is ticketed events or the free-to-enter Jazz Alley, enjoy the festival and have a great time!
