Christmas is a hectic time of the year – there’s wrapping to do, nativities and carol concerts to attend, and the whole business of catering for the family. It’s so easy to forget those less fortunate than ourselves during the festive period.
Nevertheless, many people in our community are in need. Foodbanks rely on food donations to feed local people in crisis. This Christmas, why not add a few extra items to your shopping basket and donate them to the Foodbank? Brecon Food Bank require the following, low cost items:
- Milk (UHT or powdered)
- Sugar (500g)
- Fruit Juice (cartons)
- Soup
- Pasta Sauces
- Sponge Pudding (tinned)
- Tomatoes (tinned)
- Cereals
- Rice Pudding (tinned)
- Tea Bags/Instant Coffee
- Instant Mash
You can donate food items at these locations at the following times: Bishop Bevan Hall, Monday 2:00 – 4:00. St. David’s Church Llanfaes Hall, Friday 10:00 – 12:00 For general enquiries about Brecon Foodbank

Christmas Shoe Box campaigns, which involve filling a shoe box with toys, educational items, toiletries or household goods are common among many charities at this time of year. The shoeboxes are packed up and distributed across the globe to those less fortunate than ourselves. The Rotary Shoebox scheme is one of many campaigns. Details can be found online at www.rotaryshoebox.org
If you prefer to give the gift of money at this time of year, there are so many deserving charities. Remember, though, that local collections during church services and carol concerts often support the church itself or those charities a little closer to home.
