Maggie’s, the charity which provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their family and friends, is delighted that Elizabeth and Ross Murray have chosen to open their wonderful garden to the public on Sunday 21st September from 11am to 4 pm to support the campaign to build Maggie’s South East Wales, the second Maggie’s Centre in Wales, at Velindre in Cardiff.
This year the Llanover Open Garden will have a different twist. Inspired by the Abergavenny Food Festival, which is happening just a few miles away, visitors will have the opportunity to attend free talks and demonstrations given by Anna Parton, visiting nutritionist at Maggie’s Swansea, exploring ways to improve well-being through a nutritionally balanced diet.
Elizabeth Murray comments: “The more we have learnt about Maggie’s the more we have wished to become involved in the best way we can, by sharing the garden at Llanover. We hope that our garden, as well as displaying the beautiful colours of autumn, offers a similar feeling of peace and tranquillity to the unique environment of a Maggie’s Centre. It is an ideal opportunity for people to experience a small part of Maggie’s programme of support by having the opportunity to listen to a Maggie’s Centre nutritionist too.”
Llanover in September will be uplifting and inspiring as Peter Hall, previously at Powis Castle, works his magic in the borders. A beautiful and interesting garden can generate a feeling of well being. The new Maggie’s South East Wales is fortunate to have been able to appoint Cleve West, gold medal winner at Chelsea, to design the surrounding garden that will be an integral part of the unique Maggie’s environment at Velindre.
Gwen Axford, Maggie’s South East Wales Campaign Manager says: “Built in the grounds of NHS hospitals, our Centres are designed by leading architects to be warm, friendly, full of light and open space. They are places to find practical advice about benefits and eating well; places where qualified experts provide emotional support to people with cancer, their families and friends; places to meet other people or simply to sit quietly with a cup of tea. South East Wales needs a Maggie’s Centre. So, whether you bring suncream and parasols or wellies and umbrellas take time out from the hurly burly of the Food Festival on 21st September and visit Llanover. We will be pleased to see you”.
