25th May & 26th May Abergavenny Steam, Veteran & Vintage Rally
Last year, a whopping figure of more than £22,000 was given away to local worthy causes following the success of the Steam Rally in Bailey Park Abergavenny.
This was an increase of £7,000 over the previous year and this May Bank Holiday weekend, organisers are hoping to top that figure.
All profits from the popular steam, veteran and vintage rally are handed over to Abergavenny Rotary who then donate to charities and causes within the Abergavenny area.
“This is a great boost,” said Rotary President Paul Jordan. “The Steam Rally is our major fundraiser and with the help of a lot of people we have kept alive a great show for the town. Because everyone works for free the charities see a great benefit. As Rotary we are committed to supporting the youth of the town and we do like to see a sizeable proportion of the money go to the various youth organisations. As a result of our interest in them, the youngsters reciprocate by volunteering to help us on the two days of the show. It’s a great community spirit, even the paying customers are more pleased to pay the entrance fee when they know that all the money raised will stay in the town to help good causes.”
Last year over £4,000 was donated to Deri-View School to help buy a mini bus, children’s wards at Nevill Hall received £600, Scouts, ATC, and the Borough Band all received donations.
“The only thing we cannot organise is the weather,” said show organiser Derek Lewis. “With decent weather we will see a lot of people and take more money. We have our dedicated people who travel many miles to come and see the show and will be there come what may. But if we have decent weather, the charities in the town will do very well.”
“This year we have a great show, with outstanding arena events and a great collection of steamers, veteran and vintage machines. There is vast array of things to look at, play on and eat. We have produced a show which is an absolute delight for the whole family. Without any contradiction we can say there is something for everybody and fascinating entertainment all day.”
Every year there are new attractions and things to see, but each year we welcome back some old favourites who come the show year on year to help make it the vibrant day out that it is.”
