‘The Gilwern Grunt’ will take place on Easter Monday, 21st April. Rogueruns are organising this local event, which is a challenging, hilly, multi-terrain, 10 mile race.
It will be a well-marked course amongst some spectacular scenery and will take runners on a 10 mile tour around the Clydach Gorge, encompassing the limestone ramparts of Gilwern Hill where the 800ft ‘Grunt’ will make its presence felt.
The course begins with a run over the moor and down to the local ‘Tom Thumb’ pinnacle, used as a turning point. A grand, scenic, fast drop down to cross the river follows, then the ‘Grunt,’ begins – a big climb up and around the back of Gilwern hill, followed by a spectacular traverse under the cliffs and descent down to the old railway, with an interesting run back to tea and cakes.
There will be prizes for the first 3 men and women and for veterans. Free tea and cake will be provided to all finishers. Runners can enter online on the website:
