On Saturday 8th June a group of intrepid children and their grown-ups will be taking the Zimele challenge and ‘toddling’ up the Skirrid.
They will be raising funds for Zimele UK, an Abergavenny based charity that works with impoverished rural women in South Africa to help them realise their potential and move towards self-sufficiency. Why not join them? All ages are welcome!
They will be starting at 1 o’clock at the lay-by on the Old Ross Road. Please contact zimele_uk@yahoo.co.uk or 01873 855 126 for more details and a registration pack. They’re asking people for a donation or to get sponsorship. Each registered child will receive an edible medal and there is a prize for the most sponsorship raised. After the walk, why not reward yourself with a cup of tea and some delicious cake at ‘Hannah’s on the Hill’? This cafe is yards away from the car park and they have very kindly offered to give each child a sticker and a prize. They will also donate 10% of any purchases made by Zimele walkers on the day.
Zimele UK are currently establishing a link between Abergavenny and Swayimane, a rural community in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. The link will be around community growing projects, Fairtrade, pre-schools and song and dance. All funds raised will go to projects in South Africa in these areas.
