SUMMARY:Friday 25th April 2025, 10am-4pm – Book Arts Workshop – with Guy Begbie – Upstairs at the Chapel
DESCRIPTION:The Sculptural / Architectural Tower Book\nUnder the guidance of experienced bookbinding tutor Guy Begbie, you will explore and learn a broad skills set of traditional and unorthodox bookbinding techniques through the making of a hybrid book form – the Sculptural Tower Book. An inspiring workshop suitable for participants both with or without previous bookmaking experience.\nThe Tower Book is adaptable and versatile in its page layout and content. This type of binding has so many options in how it is opened and viewed, and how the pages are put together to enhance the visual narrative. The structure is made in an elongated portrait format using either a soft back cover with a tabbed closure or hardback paper covered boards back and front. The finished book can contain printed material or drawn/painted content, text and paper engineered folded pop-up elements. The layout of these can be either sequential throughout the book or in a non-linear more dynamic configuration. The binding uses both stitching and pasting methods to give an aesthetically pleasing, professional finish.\nGuy Begbie is an artist practitioner and Book Arts workshop provider with a multidisciplinary artist’s practice, working in the field of Book Arts & Printmaking. With 30 years of teaching experience as an Art & Design University Lecturer & Book Arts Coordinator, Guy has exhibited his art works internationally.\n£95 includes lunch at the Chapel, refreshments and all materials. Booking is essential as places are limited. Please contact either The Art Shop or Chapel.\n
