Focus Magazines The local magazines for Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Brecon & Talgarth – Events, News and Advertising

Friends Of Abergavenny Library Services (FOALS), is a group of like-minded people who got together three years ago to help promote library services and usage.

Whilst we recognise that all aspects of modern life are being changed with the internet, we feel it is important to have facilities that embrace the traditional features in addition to the new technological age. Last year, to celebrate the return of the National Eisteddfod to Abergavenny, FOALS were actively involved in making the library a part of the event.

FOALS undertakes fund raising activities such as art auctions, fish & chip supper quizzes and raffles. Our latest raffle had a first prize of two tickets to the Green Man festival that were generously donated by the organisers. Some of the money raised has been spent on improving a section of the library for teenagers. Two beanbag chairs were bought and an artwork was painted by the teenagers of Seven Corners under the guidance of local artist, Danielle Farrington.

As well as books, the library offers free Wi-Fi, free internet access using public computers, online reference materials, photocopying, reading groups, regular activities and social events, book launches and a home delivery service to housebound customers.

Our next fund raising event is an art auction on the 10th of November at 6:30 pm in the library. Tickets are £4 which will include a glass of wine and nibbles.

The library is free to join and new members are always welcome. Further details are available from the library in Baker Street. Telephone No. (01873) 735980.

FOALS  also welcomes new members and we would like to see younger people come along and have a say about the library services.
